This is my personal landing page. I will use this as an organizer of sorts.

Who am I?

My name is Miguel (he/him) and I am from Portugal. I like to think of myself as a conscientious, empathic, kind, compassionate and environmentally conscious person.

I am of the opinion that the best attributes any person can have, regardless of everything else, are kindness, compassion and empathy. I try to foster those in both myself and others.

Academia

  • BsC in Physics;
  • MSc in Applied Physics;

I studied physics because I wanted to understand the fundamental rules of the universe: “the mind of god”, if you will.

Interests

I am passionate about many things, such as Linux/FLOSS, coding, reading, running, music, gym, minimalism, chess, nature, friendships, deep conversations, meditation, enlightenment, and all things science. I’m also fascinated by difficult ideas and difficult problems.

Beyond individual interests, I’m deeply aligned with broader movements and philosophies that shape my worldview:

  • Solarpunk: I am drawn to solarpunk’s vision of the future, where technology and ecology work together. I want cities covered in greenery, energy that is clean and decentralized and communities that prioritize cooperation over exploitation. Sustainability must be the foundation of society.
  • Hacker Ethos: I believe in the importance of freedom to tinker away, DIY, open access to information, repair, and tech that empowers people and not corporations. I reject unjust ownership.
  • Anarchy: Anarchy isn’t chaos. It is mutual aid, decentralization, and voluntary cooperation as foundations for a fair society. I reject hierarchies and authority imposed by force and I’d rather build communities based on autonomy, solidarity and shared responsibility. Challenging unjust norms is a good start.
  • Anti-natalism: I have thought deeply about the ethics of procreation and I found that procreation is unethical. I am an anti-natalist.
